About Ted Mann

Ted Mann: B.M., M.A., M.F.A., multi-instrumentalist and award-winning composer, is currently serving his thirty-second year on the music faculty at Keene State College in N.H. He teaches courses in the History of Rock and Roll, Avant Rock, Counterpoint, group guitar, private guitar and lute instruction. He has also directed the guitar chamber groups and guitar orchestra. His performing career has brought him to venues from Boston to New York City and across the country as a soloist and with a variety of chamber groups.

His guitar, lute and composition students have won many scholarships and have been accepted into some of the finest schools that include Yale, New England Conservatory, and UCLA to name a few. Many have pursued distinctive and highly acclaimed careers in various genres.

Mr. Mann has been awarded many grants to bring music into schools and has appeared on television and public radio. A member of  the NH All State Guitar Committee since its inception, he has given classes and lectures to promote guitar education in NH public schools. In the 2018 All State Music Festival (at NHMEA Spring Conference) he was honored to conduct the first NH All State guitar ensemble to perform on the main stage of that prestigious event.

As a lutenist and vihuelist he has appeared as a guest artist with the Boston-based early music recording ensemble Capella Alamire. As an advocate for new music, he was the co-founder of the New Music Festival For Guitar that was based at SUNY Plattsburgh. His penchant to perform in unexpected and unusual venues always include an eclectic mix of diverse genres of classical and instrumental guitar mixed with popular music and original electro-acoustic and ambient works. 

In the fields of electronic music and composition Mann has run the electronic music programs at private preparatory schools and colleges. His compositions, electronic and otherwise, have been recorded and performed regularly. Composition awards include 2003’s NHMTNA composer of the year and two Vox Novus awards and Nashua Symphony Orchestra and Chorus.  Recent performances and world premiers of larger works of his include performances at Carnegie Hall, New England Conservatory, Vermont College of Fine Arts, Jan Huss Presbyterian Church in New York City, Nashua Symphony Orchestra and Chorus and Keene State College.

Mr. Mann records for Harp of David Records. (https://tedmann.bandcamp.com) and is regularly commissioned to write music for many different media. Also, besides teaching many styles of guitar, he is available for one on one music theory and composition lessons.
